At this point in time I am fabricating the model I created on the computer but I had run into a number of issues making the pieces because of how hard it was to cut foam-centered poster board and the exacting nature of my joints that probably needed a laser cutter to make successfully.
I first started by scaling up my stencils to make the model bigger and (what I had thought) easier to make.
Then I had cut out the first pieces using a boxcutter which resulted in joints that do not slot together well
So I adjusted the stencils to have a thicker middle and cut out using an exacto-knife, which made pieces that still did not fit together well.
I had realized at this point that the bigger the pieces, the more chance it had for slight mistakes that built up to a prototype that did not fit. And so I decided to scale down the stencil to one page and cut out the smaller pieces.
Unfortunately the pieces still lacked the uniformity needed to make the frame straight and so I then started making the lines with a ruler (instead of outlining the stencils) and uniform dimensions utilizing the edges of the poster board for as many straight lines as I can.
And that is where I am with my final project. I believe I can finish it on time but it has required an immense amount of energy and patience to make and I look forward to finishing it.
