Presenting the final product of this long journey: A physical prototype of a room divider/screen using wood joinery in the English cottage style.
Materials:
Black foam centered poster board
Paper stencils
Paper patterns (wood and wallpaper)
Mod Podge
E600 Industrial Glue.
duct-tape
Exacto-Knife
Process:
1. Modeled the room divider in Rhino6 and rendered a gallery environment, establishing the English cottage look using the Sanderson Toile wallpaper pattern.
2. Planned how the joints would fit together similarly to the Halved Dovetail Corner in the 50 Digital Joints file provided for earlier labs. My original drawing was in Illustrator but I used the Rhino6 vector file printed out for the stencils of the pieces.
Note: I had gone through 4-5 different iterations of how to assemble my project and is detailed in this earlier post
3. Printed out the stencils formatted to fill a letter-sized paper and used it to make the lines to cut out on the foam poster board.
4. Cut out the pieces using an Exacto-Knife
4. Assembled the frames using Mod Podge to glue each layer together of each piece and using E600 Industrial Glue to adhere the joints to one another.
5. Used black duct-tape at where the hinges would be on the Rhino6 model, which would be on either side and in between each panel and each frame so it can fold up properly.
6. Cut out the wallpaper panels using an Exacto-Knife and used Mod Podge to apply the wood texture over the poster board and duct-tape.
7. Finally, I gave context to my room divider by cutting out a picture of a couch in a similar style to use as a little prop.
